Hi. My name is Kay and I’m 26 years old. I have fantastic friends that I only wish I could spend more time with. I’ve been going out with my boyfriend for over four years now and things are going great. My biggest hobbies are photography, traveling, and reading children’s literature. Sometimes I have frustrating days, sometimes I feel like mud, and sometimes I do things I regret. Yet overall, I love my life. I always like to see the silver lining in things and I know that’s how I stay the generally happy person I am.
I graduated college with an elementary education and psychology degree. My dream job was to be a kindergarten teacher. However, because of the declining economy and corrupt district officials, finding a teaching job proved to be a LOT harder than I anticipated! During the hiring freeze, I found a full-time job working in a bookstore as the “kids specialist”. Finally, an amazing job opportunity landed in my lap. I was offered to become the Language Arts and Social Studies Kindergarten teacher in a brand new charter school! I, of course, said yes! After surviving my first year as a teacher, I was moved to be a first grade language arts teacher at the same school and I realized that I loved first grade even more than Kindergarten!
This blog will chronicle my ever-changing life and my unique perspective as a first grade language arts teacher in a progressive new charter school.
What does that mean? I’m not sure, but I’m ready for the journey!
